      Email to the City Clerk
      Dear City Clerk,

I am writing to express my support for the motion calling for reduced spending on projects that disrupt communities and do not adequately address resident concerns. The proposed changes to Dunluce exemplify the negative impacts of such initiatives.

The overwhelming opposition to these changes demonstrates the community's strong stance. Nearly 700 households have signed a petition against the project, compared to only 28 in favour. Residents are deeply concerned about several key issues:

      1. Parking Limitations: Removing street parking throughout Dunluce would severely impact residents who rely on street parking due to limited driveway capacity. The likelihood of illegal parking would increase as people adapt, creating unnecessary tension.

      2. Traffic Safety Risks: Narrowing Dunluce Road to a single lane each way could exacerbate congestion and lead to more accidents, particularly at high-traffic intersections like Dunluce and 161 Avenue. The additional traffic from nearby developments (such as the new high school and supportive housing) would compound these risks.

      3. Environmental and Commute Impacts: Similar changes on neighboring streets have already resulted in increased commute times and therefore pollution. This project risks repeating those negative outcomes, further affecting the city's sustainability goals.

      4. Resident Well-being: The stress and anxiety caused by these plans are taking a toll on the health of community members. Many residents feel their concerns are ignored, which erodes trust in the decision-making process.

      5. Process and Accountability: The lack of meaningful consultation has left residents feeling frustrated and overlooked. Declining invitations for walk-throughs to understand their perspective signals a disconnect between officials and the people they serve.

These issues highlight the urgent need to reconsider projects that disrupt established neighborhoods without sufficient community support. Retaining existing parking, maintaining current traffic lanes, and avoiding unnecessary expenditures on such initiatives would not only save public funds but also preserve the quality of life for long-term residents.

I respectfully urge the council to adopt the motion for reduced spending on similar projects and to prioritize genuine community engagement in future planning efforts.

Thank you for considering this important matter.

      Sincerely,

Here Are the Main Points of the Email

(If You Want to Write Your Own Email and Need Some Ideas)

        1. Strong Opposition: The community is overwhelmingly against the proposed changes, with a petition showing nearly 700 households opposed and only 28 in favour.

        2. Parking Concerns: Proposed changes would remove parking on the west side of Dunluce, where many homes rely on street parking due to limited spaces. This would lead to illegal parking as residents adapt.

        3. Safety and Traffic Risks: Narrowing Dunluce Road to a single lane each way could increase congestion and accidents, especially at the intersection of Dunluce and 161 Avenue, where additional traffic from a supportive living residence is anticipated.

        4. Increased Commute Times and Pollution: Changes on nearby streets, like 124 Ave and 132 Ave, have already led to longer commutes and more pollution. The proposed narrowing could have similar impacts.

        5. Resident Well-being: Stress over the proposed changes is affecting residents' health, with some reporting high blood pressure and anxiety about the loss of parking and neighborhood disruption.

        6. Criticism of Process and Officials: Residents feel ignored, citing that officials declined a walk-through to understand their concerns. They feel the changes are imposed without proper community consultation, adding frustration and distrust.

        7. Request for Reconsideration: The email urges officials to retain existing parking, maintain current traffic lanes, and avoid unnecessary changes that could disrupt the lives of long-term residents.

        8. Legal Warning: Officials could face liability for accidents or issues resulting from the proposed changes.

Thank you for making your voice heard!
